Postgres error 08001

Hi,

I have been running a postgres PTO database fine for a year or so.

Recently I reinstalled Vista because of some unrelated issues. This was without formatting or anything, I just installed it over my previous installation.

A few weeks later I opened up PTO and got:

Unable to connect to the database.
101-SQLSTATE = 08001
Could not connect to the server


I googled this and found some old threads about it in the PT forum archives. Those threads suggested reinstalling postgres, so I did.

Now I am getting this error:


Unable to connect to the database.

101 - SQLSTATE = 08001

FATAL: database "PTOPGSQL1" does not exist


Any suggestions?

Did you make any backups of your PostgreSQL database prior to reinstalling PostgreSQL?

Nope. I figured if it was deleting anything it would warn me first.

Since PostgreSQL is a separate tool than PTO it may not prompt you, but I've never had to reinstall it so I'm not 100% sure. In the future you should always backup you databases every so often in case of a computer crash, etc.

Go to start -> programs -> postgresql -> pgAdmin III. Double click on your server, put in the password, then look at the databases listed. Do you see PTOPGSQL1?

Doesn't seem to be there.

I actually have two logins now, for postgres 8.2 and postgres 8.3. Each only contains the database 'postgres'.

I may actually have all of my hand histories saved anyway, so it's not necessarily a big deal.

Still do you have any other ideas or should I just start new databases?

I think it's gone so since you still have your hands it would be best to start a new database and reimport them.
