PostgreSQL error

Hi I already tried downloading the program and I got ane rror so I completely removed all traces of postgres from mycomputer and did it again and I am still receicing the same error when I try to convert a database.

It says 999-SQLstate=IM002
[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified.

This could be because you have...
1. Enterted the wrong user name/password/port.
2. Not started the PostgreSQL database server.
3. Not installed the PostgreSQL ODBC driver.


I know I have the user name and password correct as it's just postgres and 1234 as I set it up.

So what are the next steps I should take to fix this as I have already deleted the entire program and then reinstalled and I am getting the same error as I did before.

Are you using Vista on this computer? If so, are you running PT as administrator as it details in the popups when you first ran the program and on the download page?

Vista should be prompting you to cancel/allow PT to run every time you start it.

Yes I went into the properties of PT2 and made it so that it always runs as the Admin

Oh and it's Vista 64bit. Might that have something to do with this?

On the PostgreSQL Settings window, what value do you have selected in the "ODBC Entry to use" field?

No it does not prompt as that no longer happens if you go into properties and tell PT to always run as the admin; which is what I said I had done.

Also it's unicode.

Well that's wrong then because if you have the UAC turned back on the Vista should ALWAYS prompt you to cancel/allow PT to run. So you are not running it as admin if it does not prompt you.

Right-click on the PT desktop icon and select 'run as administrator'. Does it prompt you now??

Yes if I right click and run as admin it asks to allow.

And that seemed to solve the problem.

What exactly did that do? Just for reference

You need to run everything as admin so that PT can have access to certain parts of the registry that it's not allowed to have when you don't run as admin.
