"ODBC Entry To Use"-field is totally empty.

Here's what I've done this far:

1.Installed PT3.
2.Followed PT3-instructions to install PostgreSQL.

3.Now I soon found out I need to convert my PT2-database to PostgreSQL within PT2 before moving it to PT3.
4.In PT2 selecting Utilities>Convert Database>Settings the "ODBC"-field is empty and nothing can be selected there.

5.Here I got puzzled and after some searching I found:
archives/PT2/viewtopic.php?t=24880
...but there is no ' Application Stack Builder' to be found.

What should I do now?

Download this ZIP setup file (go to this link and select one of the mirrors to download from)...

Extract all of the files from the ZIP file into a separate folder.
Double-click on the postgresql-8.3.msi to run the installed.
On the Installation Options window that comes up, click on the Database Server option and select "Entire feature will be unavailable" because this is already installed. Do this for User Interfaces and Development too.
So this will leave Application Stack builder and the only option to be installed.
Click the Next button and it will install this program. At the end, it will give you an option to launch it.

Here's what I did next:

1.Followed your instructions and ran postgresql-8.3.msi. But the software halts and tells me to add features using Window's "Add remove programs" instead.

2.I use "Add remove programs" and select "Change" and check the box for 'Application stack builder'.
But this now requests me to browse for the install-files, so I select the newly extracted 'postgresql-8.3.msi'.
Now this software halts and says that this is not valid and that I should use the original install-files.

So what do I do now?

Have you been using your PT3 database at all? Because if not you should probably just uninstall and reinstall PostgreSQL completely.

No, I haven't used the PT3 database yet.
Ok here's what I did now:
1.Uninstalled PostgreSQL.
2.Ran the newly extracted postgresql-8.3.msi.
Now at the installation options... which of the tools can I uncheck?
3.Anyway I tried just clicking 'Next' and that leads me to another window with a checkbox named "Install as a service", which is checked by default. Should I leave it cheked?

It is also asking me for:

Service name: PostgreSQL Database Server 8.3
Account name: postgres
Account domain: COMPUTER
Account password:
Verify password:

Should I leave things be and just click 'Next'?

I was hoping to follow:

All you should need to do is leave everything set to the default values. The only thing needed will be to enter/re-enter a password on 2 windows, the install as service window and then the initialize database cluster window.

So here's what i did now:

1. Uninstalled PostgreSQL and PT3.
2. Re-installed postgresql-8.3.msi and left everything default and only entered the password-squares.
3. Ran the 'Application stack builder' and selected 8.3... (think it was 8.36) and just left everything else default.
4. Ran PT2 and entered Utilities>PostgreSQL Settings. This time I expected it to work, but lo and behold... the 'ODBC Entry To Use' is still totally blank!

Is 8.3 too recent for PT2 or what can be wrong?

(Note. I have a perfectly clean and updated install of WinXP, only 1 week old.)

Are you sure you did everything listed here

If it loaded the ODBC drivers and updated the registry then PT should be finding them. This has worked fine for other users.

Oh. How embarrassing. I had selected 'psqlJDBC' instead of 'psqlODBC'.
I usually very meticulous, but I must have slipped this time on the last instructions.

I've had the same problem, but I couldn't solve it:

I managed to install postgres manually after having some trouble with setting up the account domain name.
I also installed psqlODBC with the application stack manager.
But if I now open PT and go to PostgreSQL Settings just the window appears, where I can type in the account information, server name, port etc.
If I click OK nothing happens but if I try to access PostgreSQL Database Functions I get the folling error message:

"Unable to connect to PostgreSQL to get the list of databases

999 - SQLSTATE = IM002
[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] The source name of the files couldn't be found, and there is no standard driver specified*"

*had to translate it from german into english

I hope anyone knows what to do...
