999 - SQLSTATE = IM002 [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager]

I am trying to install poker tracker within a Virtual Machine...

i want to convert my database to a PostgreSQL database, but so far have had no luck...

i've downloaded PostgreSQL 8.2, and 8.3 (and downloaded the seperate ODBC driver with 8.3), so both had ODBC installed...

i cant understand why i keep getting the following message when i try to convert the database:

Code: Select all
Error connecting to the default PostgreSQL database:

999 - SQLSTATE = IM002
[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified...

This could be because you have...
1. Entered the wrong user name/password/server name/port
2. Not started the PostgreSQL database server.
3. Not installed the PostgreSQL ODBC driver

Now i think i've done all three...at the moment PostgreSQL is installed on the same VM as PT, so the server name i left as localhost....the port was default 5432, and the default username was postgres....and i know im not typing the password wrong...

would PostgreSQL have to be installed on the host machine rather than within the VM? if so how would this alter the settings?

any suggestions? im in a bit of a rush to get things converted to PostgreSQL so any help would be greatly appreciated...

What email was used to purchase PT2? I have no record of this email you used for this site.

I'm having this exact error message. PT2. Vista. Fairly technical, just not sure where to start. Any logs/screenshots can be provided ASAP.

Yup. The error is the first thing I see once it starts running.

Does Vista prompt you to cancel/allow PT2 to run every time?

What do you mean once it starts running?? You mean when you first open PT2 or when you first start the conversion process.

Yes, I am prompted to allow/cancel PT2 everytime I run it. Wether I am right-clicking - run as admin or just double clicking the icon on my desktop

"Starts running" - PT2 Window appears without ring game stats or import window. In other words - what you'd see if you were going to vaccum/compress a DB.

There is no conversion process attempted. I am simply trying to open and run PT to import hands and look at past stats.

One other thing that may be important to mention:

I recently ran the patch21703d patch. The problem started after I ran this patch, but not right away. PT was working for awhile after it was actually installed. It was after I started to change my default DB that said problem started.

Please advise.

Thanks

Also - When I attempt to view Ring stats by clicking the ring icon I get the following message:

DataWindow Error

Database transaction information not available

Call SetTrans or SetTransObject function.

Again, Thanks for the help.

Can I suggest that you clarify exactly when the problem occurs - you've mentioned several different situations there..
