Merging backup files

I am in the process of moving my database from my desktop to my laptop. I restored a backup on the laptop a number of days ago but I have since used the database on desktop so the database I restored is now out of date. Will it work if I backup the database on my desktop and restore it on my laptop? Or do I have to somehow delete the old database?

Making a backup of the updated database and restoring it on top of the out of date database should work exactly like you want.
