Error when trying to install PT3 (specifically postgreSQL)

FYI-

You can install PostGRESQL thorugh parallels. I have a Macbook under Parallels and have installed
and uninstalled various flavors of Postgresql without any problems whatsoever.

In particular, the download of PokerTracker3 which includes postgresql installs smoothly without a hitch.

One thing I am confused about - I have seen advice from a couple of sources about how to install PT3 on a Mac using Parallels, VMWare Fusion or Crossover, and all of them state that you need to separately install PostgreSQL first, then PT3. If thats the case, do you then use the version of PT3 without PostgreSQL? If so, why download PostgreSQL separately first - why not just download PT3 with PostgreSQL and do it all in one hit?

I am trying to do it with Crossover, so far unsuccessfully. I downloaded the PostgresSQL for Mac server (http://www.postgresqlformac.com/) first - no problems - then PT3 with PostgreSQL included. But in the PT3 installer when I try to move forward from the the "Service configuration" page, I get an error message that the selected account does not have the "Log on as a service" right, and asking whether I would like to grant that right. Clicking "Yes" results in a failure notice and return to that screen. The only way to move forward is clicking "No".

Having clicked "No", on the next screen - "Initialising database cluster" - I get "Failed to open the Secondary Logon Service: Service does not exist", which seems to be the same problem people have encountered in this thread. It stops the installation in its tracks. I've seen the solution suggested here by APerfect10, which looks fine for Windows, but I'm not sure how it translates to Mac (as with Crossover I'm not actually running Windows at all)?

Any thoughts??

I'm not a Mac user, so this is speculation, but it sounds like you're supposed to do a native Mac install of postgres first, then install PT3 without postgres. I guess that the PT3 install of postgres wouldn't get it right because it is trying to install on windows, but then PT3 once running would be able to connect to the pre-installed native mac version of postgres.

I think I have done a native install of PostgreSQL - http://www.postgresqlformac.com/ - although I think all I basically did was download the server(??). I couldn't see what else I was supposed to do with it.

I also tried installing PT3 without the PostgreSQL set-up (it gives you the option at the beginning), but it couldn't seem to find PostgreSQL, and eventually kicked me out with the message that I need PostgreSQL to set up PT3.

This sounds to me like there something else I need to do with postgres first? Do I need to specifically set up a database?

You will need to manually install the PostgreSQL for Mac version. Once you do that, in PokerTracker 3, you will need to configure PT3 to connect to this PostgreSQL server at which time you can create a database.

I am not familiar with the Mac install nor do we currently support it.

But you should be able to run PostgreSQL on your local network (127.0.0.1 aka localhost) and use that address. Port should be the same as well...
